Gemaal de Tuut Appeltern

Het gemaal de Tuut is gesticht tussen 1915 en 1917 nabij de uit 1840 stammende Appelternse sluizen. Het gemaalcomplex bestaat uit een ketelhuis, machinekamer, een houten kolenloods en een dubbele dienstwoning. Deze laatste is thans particulier eigendom. Nadat het gemaal in 1967 buiten gebruik is gesteld en korte tijd later de 40 meter hoge schoorsteen wegens instortingsgevaar is afgebroken, is het complex in de periode 1995-2001 door TAK architecten gerestaureerd. De wens van de opdrachtgever om het gemaal een museale functie te geven, is hierin meegenomen. De schoorsteen werd herbouwd; het ketelhuis, de machinekamer en de kolenloods zijn gerestaureerd waarbij deze laatste als bezoekerscentrum is ingericht.

In 2005 zijn de naastliggende Appelternse sluizen in opdracht van het Waterschap Rivierenland eveneens gerestaureerd. Ook is een masterplan in voorbereiding dat zal voorzien in een nieuw te bouwen loods waarin de stichting oude motoren en pompen uit andere gemalen wil tentoonstellen.
