Gemaal De Antagonist (wat ‘tegenwerker’ betekent) ligt aan de Stompwijkseweg in Leidschendam. Het voormalige stoomgemaal is in 1882 gebouwd in opdracht van het toenmalige waterschap De Ommedyck naar een ontwerp van J. P. Goldberg & Zonen. De Antagonist is opgetrokken in Neorenaissancestijl en bemaalde de Starrevaart- en Damhouderpolder. Het water werd geloosd op de Vliet. In 1930 werd de stoommachine vervangen door een Crossley ééncilinder liggende dieselmotor.

In 1999 werd het gemaal buiten werking gesteld, maar het is nog steeds in staat om te functioneren. Eind jaren ’90 zijn de eerste restauratieplannen door TAK architecten te Delft opgesteld. Na overname van het beheer van het gebouw door de Stichting Behoud Oude Motorgemalen, kon worden begonnen met de uitvoeringswerkzaamheden. Deze werkzaamheden betroffen hoofdzakelijk: het herstellen van de bouwkundige kwaliteit van het gemaal, het reconstrueren van het originele zadeldak van het ketelhuis en het aanpassen en vernieuwen van het interieur. Na de noodzakelijke restauratie en de verbouwing doet het gemaal  nu dienst als museum.
