Jan Stuyt, architect van de Cenakelkerk, vond in 1913 de inspiratie voor het ontwerp van de kerk in de Oriënt. Mozaïeken en schilderingen in de kerk zijn van de kunstenaar Piet Gerrits. De Cenakelkerk maakt onderdeel uit van de restauratie (2010 - 2011) van het complex Heilig Land Stichting (zie ook: Heilig Land Stichting en museum Orientalis). Belangrijke items bij de restauratie van de kerk waren:

De beschadigingen in de koepel, veroorzaakt door kristallisatie van zouten. Deze zijn bestreden door toepassing van vochtregulerende kalkmortels in het stucwerk, ventilatieverbetering in de kap en door vervanging van het verwarmingssysteem.
De dilemma’s ten aanzien van de schilderingen in het interieur. Tot hoever moet stucwerk verwijderd worden ter verkrijging van een gezonde ondergrond; evenzo het vinden van de grens van aanpassing tussen eerder overgeschilderde vlakken en het originele werk. In overleg met de RCE en restauratoren zijn beslissingen genomen.
Het kleuronderzoek aan de buitengevels dat uitwees dat het stucwerk oorspronkelijk niet wit maar okerkleurig was; het exterieur wijzigde sterk door de ingreep.
